Why do people think Christians are supposed to be perfect? Let's be real here, we are still flesh. The only difference from the point of giving our life to Christ and from before we gave our life is quite simple.
We are born again. What does it mean when we are born again? How can we be born again? Is that even possible?
Born again in the flesh? No, but born again in the spirit. As our spirit is renewed we are brought into the body of Christ Which opens the door for a lot of remarkable things in the future to come.
There is, however, Mathew 6:46 which it says, “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” The word is translated to be Christ-like. How can we be Christ-like?
1. In Character: in this life, we cannot be flawless, but we can aspire to be as much like Christ as possible.
2. In Holiness: Like the Pharisees, we are to separate ourselves from the world’s sinful values. But unlike the Pharisees, carry his love and mercy into the world.
3. In Maturity: This was a huge one for me I must admit. We are not able achieve Christ-like character and Holy living at once, but we must grow toward maturity and wholeness. Just as we expect different behavior from a baby, a child, a teenager, and an adult, so God expects different behavior from us, depending on our stage of spiritual development.
4. In Love: We can seek to love others as completely as God loves us. We can be perfect as our behavior is appropriate for our maturity level-perfect, yet with much room to grow.
Our tendency to sin must never distract us from being more Christ-like. Those who push themselves to become perfect will one day be perfect, even as Christ is perfect. (See 1 John 3:2-3)
So many times I have been challenged by my faith. When I first started my walk with Christ, I yelled at someone full of hatred so they said, “Aren’t you supposed to be Christian?” This question annoyed me a lot because I had no way of answering, but I thought, “No one is perfect" and where in the Bible can I find answers for this situation?”
I had no idea how to answer that question. It frustrated me to the fullest. We experience so many attacks when we first surrender our life to God. But how can we avoid the attacks? Is there a way we can avoid these attacks?
Well, you cannot avoid them, and without the Lord's guidance and scripture fed into you, it will be nearly impossible to avoid attacks like this, and
It tends to get worse at times...
One of the best things to do is keep your head up try to stay calm ask God for forgiveness and ask for guidance. When you go back to church ask your pastor for scripture addresses that can help your situation.
The enemy has a reputation for attacking new believers in a hard-core way by challenging us in every situation.
This is how he tries to get us out of our walk with the Lord, we simply should try to keep our faith to a level where we understand that we may not have all the answers, but ultimately take some time to search for the answers.
Next time there is an attack, we should use this strategy to avoid future attacks, just by waiting as patiently as possible to seek that answer. God gave us the Bible to guide our life.
Psalms 119:105 says, “The word is like a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”
In the beginning was the word, the word is with God and God is the word (see John 1:1)
We are called to be perfect, but not flawless. It's the process of becoming “Christ-like”. This does not justify ourselves to sinning on purpose and thinking going to church on Sundays is good enough to psy our duty to GOD.
No, but ultimately go towards the direction of staying on the walk with God. Remember the definition of this perfection and how to obtain this perfection quality.
