After the Israelites consecrated themselves, they tried to cross the Jordan River. While this would have been impossible in normal circumstances, God made the waters stop flooding so that the people could cross. He did this so that other nations would know that He is the one true God.
This is the kind of God we serve. He is not limited like us. There is nothing that can stop Him from doing what He has decided to do. He created the natural laws of our world, but He can also change them at will.
Sometimes, we think we need to help God by our actions. Our faith and vision are limited by our own ability. “I can’t reach these people, I’m not influential.” “I can’t do that, I don’t have money.” But we forget that we serve a God who can do anything! Nothing is impossible with Him! And He wants to do miracles so that others will know He is God. God can and will do amazing things. Let’s ask Him!
REFLECT
1. What limitations affect your life right now? What does the Bible say about how God is beyond your limitations?
2. Are you aware that God always acts according to His will, which can be known by reading His Word? Are you confident to ask God to make this true in your life?
RESPOND
1. Take a step of faith into a new area, maybe sharing your faith with someone else, obeying God in giving something, or volunteering for a new ministry assignment. Let God build your faith up as you see Him come through for you.
2. What would you do if you were absolutely sure God would do the amazing things He promised in His Word? Go do those things and watch God do His part.
"When the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carried the ark of the covenant ahead of the people. Now the Jordan overflows its banks throughout the harvest season. But as soon as the priests carrying the ark reached the Jordan, their feet touched the water at its edge and the water flowing downstream stood still, rising up in a mass that extended as far as Adam, a city next to Zarethan. The water flowing downstream into the Sea of the Arabah (the Dead Sea) was completely cut off, and the people crossed opposite Jericho. The priests carrying the ark of the LORD’s covenant stood firmly on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel crossed on dry ground until the entire nation had finished crossing the Jordan."
